TFS Source control does not perform get latest version when checking out files for edit (unlike Source Safe).
Many customers that migrate from VSS to VSTS 2005 don't really like this new behavior and find it quite difficult to change their developers' habits.
Following such complaints, Microsoft decided to change the "Check Out" behavior to perform get last version automatically.
The above mentioned option will be added only in the next version of VSTS 2005, code name "Orcas".
Here in SELA, we developed a small add-in for VSTS 2005 that enhances the "Check out" option to support this behavior.
How does it work? When a user checks out files, the Add-in checks if the file version is the latest, if not - a popup message notifies the user that the current file is out of date and if enquires whether he/she would like to perform a "get last version" action. If the user selects Yes the Add-in will perform get last version automatically.
The installation is very simple, just follow the below steps:
- Download the installation file (below).
- Extract the downloaded file to a temp folder.
- Double-click the extracted .msi file - this will start the installation.
- When the installation requires - provide name of the TFS server. Please note - currently the Add-in Supports only current user installation.
